1. - Leaving the phantom train:
The breaks of the subway car screamed as it came to a violent stop, the girl sleeping on the bench fell to the floor like dead weight. She cursed as she propped herself up on her hands and knee's still groggy from sleep, she put her hand on her head as she stood- up it hurt, her head had broken her fall, she looked around, the train was stopped, the lights inside were dim and flicker off and on. She grabbed her bag and ambled to the door.
A man in a black and red train uniform stood at the only door. She pushed her silver, black, and white bracelets back so she could see her black and white skull watch 6:30. She gasped she'd been on the train for almost three hours; she blinked her eyes and tried to focus.
"Umm... Excuse me sir where am I?" She asked quietly, with a little smile. The man didn't move or look at her.
"The last stop." He replied.
"Yeah, I'm sure it is... but where the hell is the last stop?"
"The place where the world ends."
She looked at him annoyed.
"Yeah well, I'm not where suppose to be and I'm sure that, that's no where near my intended stop! Besides I've been on this train 3 hours!"
"According to who?"
"My watch! You jerk!" She said pointing to her watch, she realized the numbers and the hands on her watch were missing, the skull simply smiled back at her.
She stood there confused, gawking at her watch.
"Welcome to Hell." He said stepping a side, she looked up at him and walked to the door, still looking up at the strange man.
Suddenly she ran into a dark wall, she looked up quickly and gasped.
A man stood at the door, he was dressed in a red trench coat and a black suite. He towered over her, she didn't think her heart was beating as she stood open mouth before the amazingly tall man, she felt her face flush hot and she shot her gaze down.
A smile spread across his pale face.
"I beg your pardon miss..." He hissed in a deep voice, she felt as if his words were crawling down her back with tiny sharp little claws, as she looked up at him smiling trying to seem less embarrassed.
"By no means was it your fault, it was mine. I'm sorry I should have been minding my way, I pray you accept my apology..."
He smiled again, "Very well..." He said stepping a side to let her off; she walked past still looking at him. He bowed. "It was nice to meet you Miss..."
She stood there watching until the door behind him closed.
"Jeez... I wouldn't fall for a guy like that. If I didn't know him, I'd say he were the devil himself..."
"Mind your own business You-!"
"Michael... my name is Michael..."
"I don't care about your name, I want to know his..." She whispered still awe struck.
"His name is Virgil, he works for Lucifer... His job is killing things..."
"Sounds fun..."
He raised an eyebrow surprised. "I guess you’re just as evil as he is..."
She looked around at the dark old looking city, it was gloomy and the sky was bleak black-gray. The streets were variations of gray scale grays; the building faded red bricks all the shop windows were decorated in spider webs and thick layers of dust. The shops themselves were strange, with strange people lingering in front of the shops on the cobble stone streets.
It was like no place she'd ever seen.
"What is this place...?" She asked looking at the place that seemed to sell human organs.
"This is the town of Mid-witch, a city in the Un-world."
"Un-world...?"
He raised an eyebrow and smiled, pushing his dingy blonde hair back. "You don’t know your own world...? Well it's the world of monsters, vampires, witches, and so forth. By the way you're dressed I thought you belonged here..." He said looking at her she was wearing black and white lined stockings, a black skirt, a white shirt with "hell" on it, and a black sweater. "That's how a lot of people dress around here."
She glanced around. "You don't say..."
"How do I get back to Seattle?"
He looked at her confused, showed her the steel band wrapped around his left wrist. "Even if I knew what the hell you were talking about, I couldn’t help you I’m slave... I can't go anywhere, unless I'm told to..."
She looked at the band confused, suddenly it hit her chances were this was a dream; it was impossible she'd ended up somewhere she shouldn't have.
"I don't think I'm suppose to be here-"
A pudgy hand grabbed a hand full of Michael's dirty blonde hair and raised him up, he gritted his teeth and looked back, the woman looked tall slim in a very tight black and white dress. She had long black hair pulled back tight in a lengthy cape of sleek black hair. Her hair was pulled her so tight that her dark eyes looked like dark little slits on her narrow thin face. The most grotesque thing about her was that her long hand, looked different at the elbow, all green and putrefied; with flabby skin on it, Aless looked at the flawless face in comparison with the skin on the putrid arm.
"Where have you been you dirty little runt?” She hissed.
"I've been out here waiting for you!" He replied.
"I called you seven times!"
"No you didn't I would have heard you!"
"You need to clear out those nasty big ears of yours, you lying manure bag!" She gave a growl and threw him on the cobble street, the woman looked at Aless. Who was standing there, she took a step back but the gross green arm grabbed her shoulder. "Who are you? Some gross little slave tart! I never gave you permission to procreate! I can barely stand one of you! I don't want to have to pay her owners!"
He stood up and dusted himself off; he gave the woman a dirty look. "She's not a slave."
The woman looked at the Aless' wrists and couldn't find a steel band on her wrist, neck or ankles.
A smile graced the woman’s face. "Oh, I'm sorry... Please accept my apology? Are you lost?"
Aless looked at Michael who was trying to straighten his hair she nodded.
"Too make a mends let me lend you my help-"
"No-!" Michael protested but the woman silenced him with the back of her hand, Michael glared at the woman’s back as he rubbed his cheek it was bright red.
"Don't listen to the boy, I’d cut out his tongue if I didn't to clean my feet."
Michael cringed at the prospective of that nasty chore. The woman put her other un-green arm around Aless' shoulders and lead her down the dark street.
"I need to go home, I don't belong here!"
"Come with me and we'll see what can be done."
Aless, had never seen such strange things in her life, there people who were half animal walking freely down the streets. She gawked in awe as a half man half frog bought a three jars packed with flies at an insect store, the woman cupped her cheek with her hand and steered her head forward.
"This is my humble home, it isn't much but- please make yourself comfortable..." Aless stared at the little shack that stood perched at the brink of a crumbling cliff, in reality she'd half expected it to be a mansion by the way the woman was dressed.
"Tell me what your name is?" She asked setting the tray with tea down, Michael watched them he was sitting in a corner he wanted to say something, but didn't seem like he could, there was a small tray in the table of vials with different color substances in them.
"Aless Ghram."
She leaned over and examined the tray she found a purple one and poured into one of the cups and gave it to Aless.
"What is that?" Aless asked cautiously sniffing the tea, the woman smiled and picked up her cup.
"It's some extract of Chamomile, it'll help calm your nerves try it..." She explained taking a sip. "Where are you from?"
Aless blew on her tea and took a sip it tasted like Chamomile and cinnamon. She looked up at the woman. "I'm from Seattle..."
She murmured, Michael watched her intently; Aless set her teacup down on the corner.
"Seat-tle?" The woman echoed taking another sip of her tea. "Where is that?"
"It's- It's-- I can't remember-- it's a piece of toast in a sea of gravy..." She mumbled, as she struggled to keep her eyes open, she kept talking but her voice had stopped working, she looked over at Michael. Who seemed angry about something, she tipped over and rested over the side of the old armchair, it smelled strongly of sweat.
The woman stood up and walked over to the unconscious Aless, she grabbed her shirt and pulled her to the floor.
"Dirty little freak!" The woman spat looking at her arm, she looked over at Michael. "She' young she'll fetch a pretty penny..."
Michael rolled his eyes.
***
Aless opened her eyes, her brain felt like it was spinning above her head, her arms felt sore, she was in a dark cold stone room; across from her watching her was Michael.
He was chained to a wall with heavy chains, which let his arms rest at his side.
"I told you to run- I tried to anyway..."
She tried to respond but could say anything.
"That “Nerve Relaxer” is a numbing spell, knocks you out and numbs your throat so you can't speak, it'll clear away in a few days... Check out your wrist ware..."
She looked up, her bracelets and watch were gone, and all that remained on her wrist now was a thick steel band.
She looked at Michael horrified and outraged, he smiled.
"Welcome to slavery, that thing is magically implanted not only outside but inside your skin as well, Who ever buys you will communicate with you through it...” She tired to reach it with her other hand, she pulled her legs under her and elevated herself a bit.
"I wouldn't do that..." Michael warned, she looked at it and pulled at with her fingers, just as she did so and electrical surge shot from it to her brain. She felt as though her brain had been and egg thrown into a skillet, she shuddered and shook her head trying to think of what she had been doing.
Michael was laughing. "You should really try listening..."
She shot a nasty glance at him, the day before the only thing she had been concerned with was getting to her mom's for Thanks Giving now she was wondering if she would be a slave for the rest of her life, and if a person's brain should fell like a scrambled egg.
The door opened and a large round shape stood at the door, it tilted its head up and sniffed the air, it snorted and slowly struggled to get down the steps to the stone floor.
"The new girl doesn't smell Vampire, Rosy. Not human! Not vampire! Not Hum-ire! We should get rid off her quickly, before we end up with babies you know how humans and vampires are... Procreating like filthy rabbits!" The creature was green skinned and scaly she smelt strongly of sweat and her breathe was awful it was bent down staring and sniffing Aless' hair and face, the creature licked Aless' cheek with a huge rough tongue. "Should we taste her to make sure?"
"No." Michael protested she turned to look at him. "She's human, if you cut her she'll die..."
The creature scuttled over and stomped on Michael's shin.
"Shut up no one asked you!" The creature snapped. "Besides Rosy said she smelled-"
"Rosy was wrong what she was smelling was Virgil, she bumped into him getting off the Phantom Train."
The creature looked back. "Virgil was here! But the Phantom Train! -The Train of the spirits and The Dead? What was she doing a board?"
"Ask her." Michael replied, the woman scuttled back over bent back down breathing on Aless and asked the same question.
Another large green hand came down on the first's head, she shrieked in pain and grabbed her head Michael snickered.
"You stupid pig!" The other taller round shape barked. "She can't speak!"
Aless recognized her mean little eyes; this was the woman who'd lead her here and given her the tea.
The woman in her new form glared down at her. She turned back to face, Michael who was sitting chained with a defiant air to him. He smiled at the two shapes, for the first since she'd meet him he didn't seem powerless.
"Hurry lets bleed him and get out!" She ordered, the other one nodded and walked over to a crank on the wall near the door. Suddenly Michael rose to his feet and leapt at her, his arms where behind him as he snarled at her. He smiled he had long white fangs on either side of his smile, the first one shrieked and jumped back, the second rushed forward and swatted his head with a long staff.
He growled quietly, at her his eyes narrowed bright red.
"Rosy! He's being scary again!" The first one whimpered, Rosy turned the staff on her and jabbed her in the side.
"Quit your sniveling Mary! And get the crank! He can't do anything but bark!" She growled, Mary looked at her pouting her fat lips and touched a trembling hand to the crack she started to turn it and the chains tightened and pulled him back he struggled against them but Mary pulled harder, he lost his footing on the stones and hit the back wall hard.
The chains were stretched tight holding him tight to the wall; Mary gave it a few more turns dislocating his shoulders followed by pulling his knee apart.
Rosy held the staff to his head pinning his head back while Mary tightened the harness around his neck. His neck was immobile as he glared at them.
Rosy walked up close to him, she pulled the knife from the bowl and cut his wrist he gritted his teeth as he glared at her. Mary took the bowl from Rosy and collected the blood as it poured down.
Aless sat there in shock they were bleeding him. After a few seconds, the pouring subsides to a quite drip and then nothing.
"All right! All done!" Mary said with a smile, Rosy took the bowl from her. And headed for the door. "Rosy there isn't enough for the two of us cut his other wrist!"
Rosy stopped and glared at her. "If you can reach his wrist, go a head... When you’re done undo the lock on the crank..."
Mary looked up his other wrist was really high up out of her reach, and blood from anywhere else wasn't as good, she pouted and chased after Rosy. "Come on don't be mean! Rosy give me some! I did part of the work!"
Before she left she hit the crank the chain whipped loose and he fell to the ground hard.
She watched as he lay still face down, on the cold slimy stone floor. She watched him he was breathing hard; suddenly she heard a loud snapping sound and then another and another and then a final one.
Michael lifted him self up and looked at her, his eyes were still red, she stared at him.
"I bet you what to know what I am...?” He laughed at her expression, terror mixed in with curiosity he knew that look well he saw it in a lot of his victims.
“I'm a vampire... Vampire blood is a type of drug; I was tricked by Rosy's magic and woke up like you, a slave. They keep me alive, feed me, to drain me drinking my blood mixed with a few other things makes them pretty... They feed me animal blood, mostly cattle blood..." He explained she watched him as he dragged himself forwards towards her. "I haven't had human blood for so long..." He reached out at hand; she was to far out of reach. She watched him terrified as he sat himself up and leaned towards her, his faced was just a little distance away, she cold see him perfectly in the moon light.
"I could give you immortality, all you have to do is come closer. " On the street she hadn’t really gotten a good look at him but now at this distance she could see he was very beautiful but at the same time very terrifying, she stared at him until her eyes finally flutter shut. Sleep over powered her feelings of dread and she fell asleep, if something happened to her in her sleep she only hoped she wouldn’t feel it.
